What years in the beauty and wellness industry have taught me about people, experiences and sustainable business growth.
My journey in the beauty and wellness industry began with a simple passion: helping people look and feel their best.
What started in the treatment room gradually developed into something much bigger. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to experience the industry from many different perspectives — as a therapist, national trainer, business development manager, entrepreneur and today, creative business and wellness consultant.
Each chapter has shaped how I understand business, people and the importance of creating meaningful experiences.
Perhaps one of my greatest lessons has been that a successful beauty or wellness business is built on so much more than the treatments it offers.
Understanding the Business from the Inside Out
Working directly with clients taught me something that no business report or sales strategy ever could: the importance of human connection.
It's the small details that people remember. How they're welcomed, whether they feel genuinely listened to, the confidence of their therapist and the care they receive long after their appointment.
As my career progressed into training, business development and entrepreneurship, I began to understand how these seemingly small moments influence the bigger picture.
Client loyalty, team performance, retail sales and ultimately business growth are all connected to the quality of the experience being delivered.
The most successful businesses don't simply provide a service. They create an experience worth returning for.
Three Lessons I've Learned Along the Way
1. Client Experience Is a Business Strategy
An exceptional treatment may bring someone through your doors, but the overall experience is what encourages them to return.
From the first enquiry to the follow-up after their visit, every interaction is an opportunity to build trust.
Businesses often focus on attracting new clients while overlooking the potential within their existing relationships.
Sometimes, meaningful growth begins by improving what is already there.
My advice: Look at your business through your client's eyes. Consider the entire journey, not just the service itself. Small improvements in communication, consistency and personalisation can make a significant difference.
2. Your Team Is One of Your Greatest Assets
Having worked extensively in education, training and business development, I've seen how much difference a confident, knowledgeable and motivated team can make.
When people understand not only what they're doing, but why they're doing it, their approach changes.
They communicate with greater confidence, make more thoughtful recommendations and create more consistent experiences.
Investing in your people isn't simply an operational expense. It's an investment in the future of your business.
My advice: Create opportunities for continuous learning. Training should go beyond treatment techniques and include product knowledge, client communication, commercial awareness and the confidence to make genuine recommendations.
3. Growth Doesn't Always Mean Doing More
More treatments, more products, longer working hours or a constantly expanding service menu don't automatically translate into greater profitability.
Sometimes, the most valuable opportunities come from taking a closer look at your existing business.
Are your services priced sustainably? Are your clients returning? Does your team feel equipped to recommend the right products? Are you making the most of the opportunities already in front of you?
Sustainable growth is often about working more intentionally, rather than simply working harder.
My advice: Before introducing something new, review what is already working. Understanding your numbers, client behaviour and operational challenges can reveal opportunities you may have overlooked.
Bringing Experience, Creativity and Strategy Together
Having founded my own beauty business and worked with established brands, I've experienced both the creative excitement and the commercial realities of building and developing a business.
I understand the challenges of balancing exceptional service with operational demands, financial performance and the evolving expectations of clients.
Today, as a Creative Business & Wellness Consultant, I bring these different perspectives together.
My consultancy work focuses on supporting beauty, wellness and hospitality businesses through business development, customer experience, retail performance, team training and identifying practical opportunities for sustainable growth.
Alongside this, my work in wellness, retreats and experience creation continues to shape my approach.
I believe creativity and commercial thinking should complement one another. A strong business needs clear strategy, but it also needs personality, connection and experiences that genuinely resonate with people.
For me, meaningful growth happens when these elements work together.
A New Chapter, Built on Experience
Although my work has evolved beyond the treatment room, the lessons I learned there remain at the heart of everything I do.
They remind me that behind every booking, every sale and every business decision is a person.
And ultimately, building a successful business is about finding the balance between people, experience and performance.
Through The Journal, I'll be sharing more of the lessons, observations and insights I've gathered along the way — exploring the intersection of business, beauty, wellness, creativity and meaningful experiences.
My hope is to offer practical perspectives, inspire fresh thinking and encourage a more thoughtful approach to growth.
Because meaningful business growth begins with understanding both the numbers and the people behind them.
